As part of the Fight COVID-19 in Ukraine project, DTEK, together with Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, donated four high-end ventilators to local hospitals in Lviv region. Modern equipment will help doctors save the lives of coronavirus patients and will also become an indispensable assistant in intensive care units after the end of the pandemic.
This time, three devices were delivered to Lviv regional clinical hospital of infectious diseases, and one ventilator went to Yurii Lypa Lviv regional hospital for war veterans and victims of political repressions.
“DTEK is a socially responsible company and a reliable partner to the community that helps solving such tasks as supplying hospital with the equipment required to fight coronavirus. Dobrotvirska TPP operates in Lviv region. So, our assistance is a demonstration of social responsibility towards this region and our employees. We have already delivered 35 thousand express tests to diagnose the virus and protective suits for doctors. We have already donated 20 ventilators since the beginning of the pandemic. We believe that these devices will help healthcare workers continue saving lives after the end of the pandemic,” commented Oleh Tarashchuk, CEO of DTEK Zakhidenergo.
Ventilators donated by DTEK and Rinat Akhmetov Foundation are state-of-art equipment. Most importantly, they are easy to use and virtually eliminate the human errors.
“The hospital personnel use every effort to make sure that patients leave the hospital healthy. However, the situation with COVID-19 does not change. We record a smaller number of coronavirus patients, but the death rate has remained the same,” commented Ivan Sobko, Deputy Head of Lviv Regional State Administration. DTEK and Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provide help to the hospitals by making regular contributions to the hospitals within the scope of the Memorandum that was signed recently. If every company that signed the memorandum of understanding had been properly honoring its commitments, we would have obtained much better results.
Every time DTEK representatives cooperated with regional state administrations to identify the need for equipment and the list of hospitals.
“Lviv regional clinical hospital is one of the backbone hospitals in our region, and our personnel has to honor commitments in connection with providing treatment to coronavirus patients. We hope that by combining the efforts of the business, state, and the community, we will create better opportunities for treating out patients, commented deputy chief of medicine of the hospital Petro Fedun.
In order for medical personnel to have the necessary knowledge and skills for the effective use of ventilators, at the end of May 2020, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, together with the Ministry of Health and the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine, held an online conference for doctors on the specifics of operating the latest models of ventilators.
“Considering the equipment our hospitals had, I could say that we started fighting COVID-19 with bare hands. This is why we have always welcomed the help from philanthropists. This is not the first time that DTEK and Rinat Akhmetov Foundation have donated equipment to our hospitals. Recently, we have also met at Lviv regional hospital of infectious diseases, Yurii Lypa Lviv regional hospital for war veterans and victims of political repressions, and also in Zhovkva hospital. I am confident that by joining our efforts, we will be able to win the battle against the pandemic and spend the next year’s summer season on a beach, in the mountains, or in summer camps,” emphasized Bohdan Hahaluyk, first deputy head of the Regional Council.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, regional hospitals in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Dnipro, and Lugansk regions have already received 50 ventilators donated by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and DTEK.
