Power unit 8 of DTEK Burshtynska TPP has been disconnected from the power system since August 15 and put under scheduled medium repair. The main task of power engineers is to restore electrostatic precipitators to reduce emissions and prepare the unit for reliable operation in the autumn and winter period.
In total, several types of work will be carried out at the power unit 8 which will allow to eliminate all defects associated with the equipment wear and prevent its failure in the future.
“At the unit 8, one of the main tasks is to restore the stable operation of electrostatic precipitators. We do this systematically at all units to reduce emissions,” Oleh Ivakhiv, Chief Engineer of DTEK Burshtynska TPP, said. “Last year we upgraded 2 electrostatic precipitators at two power units. In total, all 12 units of the plant are equipped with electrostatic precipitators. During the last 8 years, the plant has upgraded eight electrostatic precipitators. We have completely reconstructed them on three units. Due to this, emissions of pollutants were reduced by an average of 30 times – to 44 mg/m3, which meets European standards.”
In addition, boiler heating surfaces will be replaced and restored at the unit, the pulverized coal system and auxiliary equipment will be repaired. Power engineers will also carry out boiler cleaning work, repair the draft-blowing mechanisms and the generator. All this in combination will help to improve technical and financial performance indicators and reduce emissions at this power unit.
“We do not know whether this winter will be warm or frosty, but Burshtynska TPP power engineers have entered the active phase of the repair work. We are preparing for the autumn and winter period, whatever it may be. Our colleagues – Galremenergo and Interenergoservice – help us in the preparation. Power engineers work as one team and carry out repairs in accordance with the specified deadlines, without violating quality requirements. Our employees understand that their own safety at production, the plant’s stable operation during the heating season, and therefore the light and heat in Ukrainian houses in winter, depend on the work they are presently carrying out. Therefore, we take full responsibility for the repair campaign,” Oleh Ivakhiv, Chief Engineer of DTEK Burshtynska TPP, commented.
By repairing the power unit 8, Burshtynska TPP power engineers entered the active phase of repair and preparation of the enterprise for the upcoming heating period. Also, before the cold weather begins, Burshtyn power engineers are planning to repair the power unit 9.
