The entire teacher collective of school No. 9 in Pavlohrad, headed by Director Alisa Riabova, visited Zakhidno-Donbaska Mine in January. The meeting of the two labour collectives started off the pilot partner project “School – Mine. From Professional Guidance to Professionalism”. The meeting included presentations on the work of DTEK, Ternivske Mine Group, and school No 9. Then the guests had a tour around Zakhidno-Donbaska Mine and the People’s Museum of Miners’ Glory of Ternivske Mine Group.
Vasyl Snihur, Director of DTEK Ternivske Mine Group:
“Thanks to meeting with school No. 9 of Pavlohrad, we found out that most students’ parents are employed at DTEK. This fact surprised us a little and at the same time made us consider this excellent opportunity to boost the image of workers and technical jobs. That is why we are quite interested in this project. We hope to establish a direct contact with the younger generation and show them that a modern coal enterprise is about innovation, sustainable development and opportunities for personal and career growth.”
The project will allow students to learn the history of Western Donbas coal mining, visit the enterprise and the People’s Museum of Miners’ Glory and partake in the “Success Lessons" held by the best Mine Group representatives. In addition, students will receive basic mining skills in career guidance centres based on school workshops, and geography teachers will be able to hold lessons together with leading Mine Group specialists. At the same time, children and teachers will participate in joint sports, creative and environmental events and many other interesting Mine Group projects.
Alisa Riabova, Director of Pavlohrad Secondary School No. 9
“We were impressed by the miners’ professionalism and innovative approaches to work. At the same time, we were pleasantly surprised at their attitude to the industry’s history and traditions, their respect for working people. It is also nice to know that the miners have in turn become quite interested in our school. Practically everyone in our teaching staff has a husband, son, son-in-law or a relative working for DTEK. Such close communication with the Mine Group management allows us to see, so to say, the true colours miners’ labour, to get an insight and thereby foster in our children a respectful attitude to technical jobs and pride in their parents’ work. I am sure that our work on implementing the joint project will be fruitful and promising.”
