Prevention for the sake of reliability: power unit 10 of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP has been repaired.
Power engineers prepare equipment to ensure its reliable operation during a winter season. The repairs of power unit 10 was completed at DTEK Prydniprovksa TPP. The stability of its operations means reliable delivery of heat to our houses, schools, and hospitals. Power engineers are confident: we will have heat.
Power engineers of the power plant and contractors have been working for two months to prepare power unit 10 of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP for operation during a winter season.
The repairs scope included the partial replacement of front and back boiler screens to prevent technological failures and ensure reliable operation of the equipment. Draught mechanisms that ensure the burning of coal and removal of smoke through a new electrostatic precipitator were repaired. A system of hydraulic ash removal was retrofitted as well as gas and air pipes used to supply air to a burning process and remove combustion products were fixed. One of the key objectives of the repairs was to replace the turbo alternator rotor. The assembly weighing 50 tons was installed in its place.
“DTEK is a responsible and reliable company. This is why we always prepare power plant equipment for operation during an autumn and winter season in advance. Power unit 10 of Prydniprovska TPP is the most engaged power unit of our power plant. It was retrofitted: the power unit was converted for burning steam coal, and a new modern electrostatic precipitator was built. The power unit has worked for over eight thousand hours after the retrofitting. We inspected the equipment and upgraded and repaired the parts that required attention. The reliability of heat supply and power supply to the Ukrainian energy system will depend on the stability of this equipment’s operation,” said Anatolii Borychevskyi, director of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP.
Power unit 10 of Prydniprovska TPP was retrofitted in 2018 and equipped with a modern electrostatic precipitator. 1,226 tons of metal structures were installed during the retrofitting and installation of the new gas cleaning system. This quantity includes 1,000 tons of metal structures of the electrostatic precipitator and 266 tons of the power unit’s equipment. Three new air ventilators were installed in the gas-and-air fuel drying system, and 16 old burners were replaced. An automated process control system from Siemens was installed to control new coal pulverization systems. It took nine months to convert the power unit, which is a record time for such projects.
DTEK Prydniprovska TPP has already received a certificate confirming its readiness for a heating season. It means that we will have light and heat in the winter.
