Traditionally, in summer months, electricity consumption jumps during day time when people switch on air-conditioners. These leaps are covered by hydro power plants and thermal power plants, including DTEK’s plants. The electricity consumption also grew last month as two chemical plants in Cherkasy and Rivne resumed their operations.
Thus, in July, DTEK's G coal-fired TPPs increased electricity production by 10.6% y-o-y to 2.604 bln kWh. Furthermore, plants operating on imported anthracite were also required to increase production. Last month they generated 230 mln kWh, which was one third more compared to June.
"By increasing the production of high-steam volatile coals and importing anthracite from the RSA, DTEK secured the required coal stocks at our power plants to be used during the summer peak consumption," says DTEK Energy Electricity Generation Director Sergey Kurilenko. "We continue ensuring sustainable power supply in Ukraine strengthening its energy independence. Therefore, Ukrainians will have more reliable power and heat supply."
It should be mentioned that by the start of the 2017 heating season, DTEK plans to switch two Prydniprovska TPP’s units from anthracite to G-grade coal, which is mined in Ukraine.
