Review of DTEK Energy generation activities as of 08 February 2021
  • During the previous 24 hours, on 07 February 2021 heat generation supplied 3 mln kWh more electricity to the energy system than planned (it was planned to supply 92 kWh, actually supplied — 95 kWh). And this is even without taking into account the commands of NEC Ukrenergo for an unscheduled mobilization.
  • As of 8:30 am on 8 February 2021, the declared capacity of operating and backup  power generating units was 5,853 MW. There are 28 DTEK’s TPP units operating in the energy system out of the 35 available. It is planned to connect 3 more power generating units to the energy system shortly.
  • According to the production schedule, 7 power generating units (4 at Burshtyn TPP, 1 at Luhansk TPP, 1 at Kurakhivska TPP and 1 at Ladyzhyn TPP) are not yet in demand by the energy system and are today held as back-up.The situation may change and in the event of shortage in the energy system, power engineers are ready for the commands of NEC Ukrenergo to mobilize the back-up power units.
  • Beyond the planned schedule per day on the balancing market, DTEK’s heat generation received commands from NEC Ukrenergo during the previous day to sustain the load of 6,865 MWh, thus covering up for all the failures that occurred within the energy system of Ukraine.
  • There is only 1 power unit under the planned overhaul — the power unit No. 11 of Prydniprovska TPP. Power generating unit No. 7 of Kurakhivska TPP recovered from scheduled overhaul yesterday and is already delivering 175 MW of power load into the energy system. Currently Kurakhivska TPP operates 6 out of 7 power generating units and sustains the load of 962 MW. Within an hour, Kurakhivska TPP shall match the needs of the energy system in their entirety.
  • Yesterday, power generating unit No. 9 of Burshtyn TPP was transferred from current overhaul to emergency overhaul mode due to an increase in the scope of works to be done on the turbine unit. It is necessary to repair the second turbine support, which shall result in the power generating unit capacity increase by 25-30 MW. Power generating unit No. 8 of Prydniprovska TPP is in emergency overhaul, but it cannot operate on coal due to unavailability of an emission permit.
  • In this case, the term “power generating unit emergency shut-down” does not mean the loss of power by the unit and the energy system collapse. This is usually a short-term overhaul to eliminate shortcomings in the operation, such as fistulas on the heating surfaces of the boiler, etc., which also occur due to impossibility of carrying out fully-fledged overhauls.
  • The number of power generating units under overhauls is variable due to power engineers, who quickly eliminate shortcomings in the equipment operation with all of their professionalism. It is precisely thermal generation that meets the energy system’s need for peak loads (in the morning and in the evening, when there is growing consumption).
  • During December through January, DTEK’s TPPs operated 20% higher than the forecast balance of the Ministry of Energy, because the power generating units of the NPPs did not undergo the overhauls on time and went into the emergency overhauls in the heat of the autumn and winter season.
