Well-coordinated work of power engineers and firefighters. DTEK Prydniprovska TPP conducted a drill to extinguish 2,000 tons of fuel oil. The fire was simulated. It was extinguished together by representatives of the voluntary fire brigade and firefighters of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
As soon as “combustion occurrence” notification was received by the shift supervisor, the plant voluntary fire brigade members arrived at the “incident” scene immediately. They quickly took on the task to locate the simulated “fire.” Roman Poplaukhin, the power unit operator, has been taking part in such training for several years and already knows exactly how to act in such a situation.
“We, the voluntary fire brigade members, are the first to fight the fire and do not let it spread. We are not indifferent to our company and the safety of our colleagues’ lives. Therefore, the fire brigade must always be ready so that each of its members knows how to act correctly. After all, if not us, then who?” Roman Poplaukhin, power unit operator of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP, said.
Firefighters of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine arrived to help the plant firefighters. They deployed their equipment and completely eliminated the simulated “fire.”
“In case of a fire, it will be located and liquidated both by the voluntary fire brigade of the enterprise and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Interaction between the facility and the divisions of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine is required to secure good results. During such drills, our personnel can study the facility, not in theory but in practice,” Oleksandr Lymar, Deputy Head of the 8th State Fire and Rescue Unit in Dnipro, said.
“Before the arrival of the firefighters, it is necessary to start extinguishing: to locate the fire and prevent it from spreading. The plant has a fire extinguishing distribution system which we maintain in working order. These are fuel oil tanks, an open switchgear, oil facilities, and a fuel warehouse. Fire protection is mandatory in all places of possible occurrence. The drill once again helped us to pay attention to bottlenecks and improve the correct coordination of actions in such situations. This is very important because not only the energy supply of the region, but also the life and health of our employees may be under threat, and this is the main priority for the company and Prydniprovska TPP as well,” Anatolii Borychevskyi, Director of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP, said.
In general, such drills are traditionally held at all DTEK enterprises, therefore the company is not only an industry leader who contributes to the country’s energy independence but also a responsible employer who cares about its employees’ safety.
