Planting greenery is the easiest and most effective way to combat climate change. DTEK cares about the environment. That is why Luganska TPP volunteers organized an eco-marathon on April 16: they handed over more than 200 seedlings to educational institutions in the town of Shchastya and the village of Petropavlivka as part of Green City, DTEK's traditional spring initiative.
Students and teachers of Shchastya Secondary School No.2 were the first to join the eco-marathon. They received the seedlings on Thursday in the afternoon and decided not to wait until the next day and started planting trees and bushes straightaway.
“Our school has been actively involved in landscaping and greening activities over the last few years. And we get a helping hand from our real eco-friends - Luganska TPP and DTEK. This year, too, we received another wonderful gift from them: ornamental and fruit trees and bushes. Now we have much more living air "filters". We are grateful to the power workers for our continuous partnership in doing good things for the environment!” said Olena Shukalova, Deputy Director of Shchastya Secondary School No. 2.
On April 16, the kindergartens of Shchastya and Petropavlivka took over the greening initiative baton. The kids diligently helped their teachers to plant and water. "We joined the eco-initiative together with our students. It is very important to instil a caring attitude towards the environment in children from an early age and lead by example showing how to take care of the environment. We hope that very soon our seedlings will turn green and become a crown jewel of our garden", said Valentyna Kondratova, Headmistress of Birch, Petropavlivka's kindergarten.
Kids from Shchastya's Zirochka and Ivushka kindergartens, too, helped the adults in planting trees. And Shchastya's K. Kutovyi Secondary School No.1 organized a real eco-sprint volunteer event. They planted the courtyards of two school buildings -- senior and primary -- in one go. "This is the second eco-sprint volunteer event in our school, and both times DTEK Luganska TPP supported us in our efforts to improve the city's environment and green it," commented Antonina Shcheholkova, the school's principal. The hard-working youth was inspired by stirring songs sung by the school's creative team. And after productive work, a delicious kulish soup in the fresh air was waiting for the participants of the eco-sprint!
The last to joint the eco-marathon were Petropavlivka's schools. "Today, our yard became even greener. We planted young lindens, tender apple trees, snow-white spireas, catalpas and dogwoods. We are grateful to DTEK and Luganska TPP for the opportunity to make a contribution to improving the village's environment”, said Ruslan Tkach, principal of Petropavlivka Specialized School No.2.
"We hold planting campaigns twice a year. Not only our employees but also residents of the community take part in them, and this is extremely important for the environment there. What is also important is that the city and village residents make their contributions to the life of the community by doing concrete things. Thus, we work together to preserve the environment and build an environmentally friendly future for the new generations. Because DTEK cares about the environment!” said Borys Safonov, DTEK Luganska TPP's Director.
