Securing the stable power supply: DTEK Prydniprovska TPP is getting ready for the winter

Ukrainian power engineers are getting prepared for reliable operation during an autumn and winter season. The baseload equipment is being repaired at DTEK Prydniprovska TPP. It will be used to supply electricity and heat to Ukrainians during a cold season.

DTEK takes a responsible approach to doing business. This is why the company starts preparing its thermal power plants for operation during a heating season already in the summer. Prydniprovska TPP is the baseload power plant of the Dniprovskyi energy hub. In addition to producing electricity, the plant is responsible for supplying heat to the heavy-populated city districts located on the left bank of the Dnipro river.

Currently, the heating equipment is undergoing repairs. The Interenergoservice specialists are performing diagnostics and repairs to power units 7 and 9, fix turbines, and wash smoke dusting systems. The power engineers pressure-test the boiler. This helps identify potential defects in pipes under pressure and prevent technological failures when the equipment is in use. Slag is being removed from the furnace section of boilers, and ash removal system is being repaired.

Medium repairs will also be performed to power unit 10 of Prydniprovska TPP to ensure its reliable operation during the winter season. A turbine rotor will be replaced here, and the boiler heating surfaces will be refreshed.

“The equipment timely maintenance and repair are a prerequisite for the reliable operation of a power plant during a winter season. DTEK is a responsible and reliable company. This is why we check and restore our capacities to ensure their fault-free operation during a cold season. We also stock coal for the same purpose. So far, the power plant’s warehouse has already been stocked with over 250 thousand tons of coal. This is enough for uninterrupted operation during over three months under average load. These efforts will secure stable supply of light and heat to Ukrainians. Our power units burn domestic steam coal, and this is our contribution to promoting Ukraine’s energy independence,” says Anatolii Borychevskyi, director of Prydniprovska TPP.

Power engineers have been also repairing pipework of ash and slag pipelines. 350 meters of spent pipes will be replaced with new ones this year. It will improve the reliability of transportation of coal burning products.

The TPP personnel have also started repairing water supply and heating networks of the Prydniprovsky residential area and the left bank of the Dnipro river that fall within the TPP’s responsibility zone.
