DTEK Energy TPPs produced 12.6 billion kWh from October 2020 till present day. This is the company’s contribution to ensuring stable operation of Ukraine’s energy system and living smoothly through cold weather. In addition to the planned schedule, generation volume also includes work on the balancing market under the commands of NEC Ukrenergo (worth almost 1 billion kWh). With our work, DTEK Energy thermal power plants covered all failures and needs of the energy system that occurred at peak consumption.
During 2020/2021 heating season, the load on thermal generation was on average twice as high as during the same period of the previous year. In December, the volume of electricity generation by DTEK Energy TPPs exceeded the forecast balance of the Ministry of Energy by 48.5%, which caused a significant decrease in coal storages at the thermal power plants in January. Increased load on thermal generation and low coal reserves at the warehouses are a consequence of untimely return NPP power generating units from overhauls.
“We have already passed the heating season equator, as well as the peak of severe frosts. Owing to the maneuverable thermal generation, the system works stably, there were no rotating power cuts. Despite the lack of funds for scheduled repairs, frequent accidents and additional workload, our power engineers are on duty around the clock and provide light and heat to the homes of Ukrainians. But at the same time, our debts are growing — today Ukrenergo’s debt before DTEK’s generation has already amounted to UAH 2.4 bln. If we want to rectify the emergency situation, we need to stabilize the market situation and to provide financial opportunities for the generations to conduct annual overhaul campaigns,”explained Ildar Saleev, CEO, DTEK Energy.
DTEK Energy continues to fill up its TPPs with coal, both domestic and imported. As of 25 February, some 203,000 tons of coal are in the warehouses of DTEK Energy’s thermal power plants.
