DTEK Energy has contracted an additional 70 thousand tons of power plant coal from Poland to ensure a more reliable operation throughout the heating season. As a result, the total volume of fuel contracted to be imported from the neighbouring country has now been increased to 280,000 tons. Coal is needed to generate electricity at thermal power plants and, consequently, for the stable operation of the entire Ukrainian energy system.
The contracts provide for coal supply throughout the heating season, starting in September this year and ending in March next year. As of today, almost 78,000 tonnes of imported fuel have been imported and delivered to the company's thermal power plants.
"Realizing all the challenges of the heating season, we are not only intensifying repairs and restoration of power units, as well as continuing to produce coal for thermal power plants at full capacity but also strengthening our rear, where possible. For this purpose, we created a stockpile of critical equipment in case of further shelling and provided TPPs and mines with backup power generators. The additional imported coal that we bring to Ukraine is also a safety net. Our own coal mining operations have always been a priority for us, but additional fuel supplies from abroad will help us confidently go through the heating season. We are doing our best to get through this difficult winter and provide Ukrainians with light and heat", Ildar Saleev, CEO of DTEK Energy stressed.
