DTEK Energy has imported 226 thousand tonnes of thermal coal from Poland since September last year to ensure a more stable autumn-winter period.
This is almost 2/3 of the total volume of imported fuel contracted for the heating season, which was recently increased to 367 thousand tonnes. Deliveries continue regularly and, according to the terms of the contract, will continue until the end of March, which is almost the end of the heating season.
Additional volumes of fuel allow thermal generation and the Ukrainian power grid to more reliably survive the winter and peaks in electricity consumption, especially during cold snaps.
“Our key task is to ensure that Ukrainians continue to have electricity and heat. Despite the shelling, which, for example, one of our frontline stations is subjected to almost daily. Despite the lack of internal reserves of generating capacities in the power grid, which arose due to the occupation and shelling of power facilities last winter. For this purpose, we continue to repair damaged equipment, carry out scheduled maintenance at TPPs, and maximize coal production to ensure that thermal generation is provided with sufficient coal volumes. We also insure ourselves with imported fuel supplies, which allow us to get through the winter more reliably,” said Ildar Salieiev, CEO of DTEK Energy.
