The International Festival of Wooden Sculpture ‘Ladyzhyn Grove 2021’ has started in Ladyzhyn. In 2021, Lithuanian and Ukrainian sculptors will take part in the festival. DTEK has been a permanent general partner of this event since its opening. It was the partnership between business, local authorities and the community that provided the impetus for the implementation and sustainable development of such an annual event in the city. This year, an open-air will be held for the first time as part of the festival with the participation of Ukrainian artists.
The festival started on September 13 and will continue for two weeks, during which craftsmen will transform wooden blocks into unique sculptures. The theme of this year is ‘Fairy Tales of Ladyzhyn Grove’. So the local arboretum will soon be decorated with new sculptures that will create a stunning fairytale atmosphere.
Participants and guests always plant new trees at the opening of the event. This is DTEK’s environmental initiative, which has already become a good tradition of the festival. We give new life to the old tree, which becomes a decoration, and a new place for seedlings in our park.
‘The organizers strive to introduce the European tradition of wooden sculpture festivals in Ukraine. This way, not just amateurs, but real field experts — artists with premium professional education — take part in the event. We are very grateful to DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP, AMER (Local Economic Development Agency) and the city administration for the excellent opportunity to exercise our talent here. Together, we create a real open-air museum and every year we leave a piece of ourselves together with our works of art in it,’ said Inna Berezina, one of the organizers of the event.
Along with the festival of wooden sculpture, Ladyzhyn Central Park will host entertainment and creative events, master classes, exhibitions and fairs. In addition to carvers, artists from different parts of the country also visited us this year. This way, festival visitors will have the opportunity to watch the real magic of the brush. There will also be a show-competition ‘Speed Carving’ on fast carving. The sculptures created will be immediately put up for auction and the gathered funds will go to charity, and the winner will receive a prize from DTEK.
Ihor Sniehin, Director of Ladyzhynska TPP, noted: ‘DTEK is a responsible, reliable company that shares the values of society, cares about the future of Ukraine and supports talents. Ladyzhyn Grove is one example of how a company shares the values of community in the town where one of its enterprises is a town-forming one. Ladyzhyn is a town of power engineers. Therefore, it is very important for us that town residents are satisfied with their standard of living. This is exactly why we will continue providing support to such initiatives undertaken by the community and local authorities.’
Carvers from Ukraine and Lithuania will transform wooden blocks into fabulous figures. Each of them will be three meters high. These are unique sculptures being worked on by real craftsmen now. On September 24, completed sculptures will be presented and installed at locations in the arboretum.
