A contribution to the stable operation of the energy system during a heating season: DTEK power engineers repaired 19 power units of their TPPs

DTEK Energy prepares its thermal power plants for fault-free and reliable operation during an autumn and winter season: power engineers inspect equipment and perform repairs at all eight power plants. The stable operation of DTEK Energy TPPs and the national energy system during a winter season will ensure that Ukrainians have light and heat in their houses.

“The national lockdown changed the schedules of repairs at DTEK thermal power plants. To reduce a risk of infecting our employees, we postponed the tasks that require the engagement of a larger number of personnel until the second half of the year. Despite these changes, our thermal power plants are now ready to ensure the reliable operation of the energy system during a heating season,” says Oleh Kurylenko, the generation director of DTEK Energy.

Today, the repairs have been completed at 19 power units. The power engineers are planning to repair another seven power units by the end of the year. Moreover, they prepare auxiliary equipment, perform maintenance of hydraulic works and automation devices, and prepare buildings and structures for cold weather operation.

Also, almost two million tons of coal have been stocked in the warehouses of DTEK Energy’s TPPs to ensure the operation stability during a heating season.

“DTEK is a company that acts in the interests of the state. Our key task is to ensure stable power supply to Ukraine and supply of thermal energy to the regions. This is why we repair power units and stock coal at our warehouses. These efforts will prevent failures in the energy system, and Ukrainians will have heat and light in their houses,” said Dmytro Sakharuk, CEO of DTEK Energy.

In addition to contributing to the stable operation of the Ukrainian energy system, TPPs of DTEK Energy supply heat to over 50 thousand apartments and houses in cities and towns where the company’s thermal power plants are located. A heating season has already started in those localities. The heat supply was launched in accordance with resolutions passed by local city and town councils based on temperature indicators in a concrete locality.
