Almost 200 employees of DTEK Energy's mine groups Ternivske, Pavlogradske, and Geroiv Kosmosu and Pavlohradska CPP on the eve of the May holidays held a Clean City spring volunteer event. Miners collected and removed around 20 cubic meters of rubbish, whitewashed more than a kilometre of curbs, and planted 130 trees and 170 rose bushes.
The environmental initiative's participants observed quarantine restrictions, which is why there were less people than in previous years. We had to hold the volunteer events in several stages.
"I am once again convinced that our Mine Group employs caring people who are willing to improve not only their mines' premises, but also the neighbourhood around them. This year we held a three-day cleaning and improvement marathon. Beside cleaning, we planted trees and a lot of flowers. They will make the air cleaner and transform our mines' premises. Taking care of the environment is one of DTEK's values”, said Dmytro Zabielin, DTEK Ternivske Mine Group Director.
Ternivske miners cleaned all three mine sites, planted thujas, junipers, boxwoods, roses and petunias. Geroiv Kosmosu Mine Group's employees collected rubbish and removed dead wood in a forest plantation in the Pavlohrad district and planted young sumac and bird cherry trees.
"Given the quarantine, we did not go far and cleaned the area around the mine - the Pavlohrad district land. We bought and planted young trees to refill the planet's lungs with oxygen. It is a pleasure to feel oneself part of a large and close socially-responsible company that cares about cities and areas where it operates, and to support its useful initiatives”, said Lilia Holovina, Chief Environmental Specialist at DTEK Geroiv Kosmosu Mine Group.
Pavlogradske miners planted the future Shakhtar Square in Ternivka with adult linden trees.
"We had to compensate for the plants that stood in the way of the mine water collector construction. The place where to plant new trees was decided upon by the municipal authorities. Soon Ternivka will have a beautiful recreation area, which our miners helped to plant”, said Nataliya Olyashchenko, Chief Environmental Specialist at DTEK Pavlogradske Mine Group.
Representatives of the Pavlogradska CPP Youth Movement tidied the river bank up in the village of Verbky, planted 20 linden and spirea seedlings, and set up benches.
"DTEK is a socially responsible company that acts in the interest of the country and the regions. That is why we hold environmental volunteer events every year. Our team gladly takes part in them. Many residents of the village of Verbky work at the coal processing plant, so we decided to make the favourite place of recreation for the Verbky village residents comfortable and cosy. We made this part of our planet cleaner and greener, and had a great time in a company of like-minded people and friends. I am grateful to my fellow workers who dedicated their weekend to an important and useful cause", said Nina Lavrova, leader of the Pavlogradska CPP Youth Movement.
