DTEK miners increase knowledge on occupational health and safety

DTEK Pavlogradugol held at Ternivska Mine a training session on compliance with the rules for operating the transport chain. The main goal is to increase the practical knowledge of miners on the correct and safe use of mine transport. Safe operation is one of the most important tasks of DTEK’s coal enterprises.

DTEK miners increase knowledge on occupational health and safety
The School of Excellence was founded several years ago. Colleagues gather at one of DTEK’s coal enterprises and consider, using a specific example, how operation processes can be improved. Mainly attention is paid to the issues of occupational health and safety of people when working with mechanisms. This time, employees of DTEK Pavlogradske Mine Group demonstrated how to improve the conveyer operation.

“Unfortunately, safety violations are frequent. And, mainly on conveyor, rope, and wheeled transport. Therefore, after investigating such violations, we develop technical measures and introduce know-how that is not provided for in the operating instructions and allow us to preserve the life and health of employees. We hold a ‘school’ to share this experience of improvement and constantly expand it,” Vadim Berlo, Deputy Head of the Department for Health and Safety at DTEK Energy, said.

This time, specialists from Pavlogradske Mine Group demonstrated improvements for the conveyor belt at the 405th collection road. It was upgraded so that people could be transported along the upper belt, and the mobile transfer was improved to facilitate loading the rock mass from the longwall. And the following equipment was also installed:

a powerful light and sound system for warning the start-up of the transport conveyor loader which, in the conditions of a mine, will eliminate the possibility of not hearing the sound signal of the TCL start-up
the IR sensor which is the last line of defense, blocking the operation of the belt conveyor behind the raising unit, in the event of a person being detected in the sensor’s coverage area.

“The advantage of the upgraded mobile transfer unit is, first of all, that fewer people will be involved in the work now. It is easier to move along the roadways, and the coal is dry. And the cost is not high. Plus, it is comfortable to work, everything is audible, and much less dust. And, as a result of this, it also became safer to operate,” Artem Anosov, foreman of breakage face miners at the second mining area of Pavlogradske Mine Group, tells.

Thus, specialists of coal enterprises are constantly looking for and finding solutions to improve the safe work of people at production. And events such as the School of Excellence help them not only use innovations in practice but also significantly increase the chances of preserving human life and health.
