DTEK Energy reports on readiness for the 2023/2024 heating season.

✅ Generation

DTEK Energy power engineers:

  • have completed scheduled repairs at 20 Thermal Power Plant power units. As planned, they are entering the heating season at 100% readiness. But they didn't stop there. They plan to repair a total of 27 power units by the end of 2023. The company's expenses are almost doubling this year, up to UAH 3.9 billion.
  • They have restored 8 Thermal Power Plant power units damaged by shelling. To compensate for what cannot be repaired before winter, two power units were additionally re-activated. That's +500 MW to the total power system capacity.
  • They formed a stockpile of critical equipment in case of new attacks. These include 170 units funded by 1.3 billion UAH of our investments.
  • They set up 224 powerful generators. These will provide reserve power for DTEK Thermal Power Plants and mines.
  • Physical protection of Thermal Power Plants has also been taken care of. It should reduce the effects of enemy shelling. It's certainly not a foolproof protection against all attacks, so we still primarily rely on the “preventive” power of Ukrainian air defence.
  • Since the beginning of the year, while getting shelled, performing renovations and repairs, we have supplied almost 12.2 billion kWh of electricity to the energy system.

✅ Coal mining + importation

DTEK Energy miners:

  • In order for DTEK’s Thermal Power Plants to be able to operate at maximum capacity throughout the winter, they were stocked with sufficient fuel. For this purpose, 21 new coal longwalls have been put into operation. 5 more longwalls are to be commissioned by the end of the year.
  • Ukrainian coal extraction is a priority for the company, so this year investments into it are twice as high — 7.4 billion UAH.
  • The company is also preparing an additional safety margin for the winter. For this, it imports coal from abroad. To date, 53,000 tonnes have been delivered from Poland. The total plan for the autumn-winter season is 210,000 tonnes.

✅ Mechanical engineering

DTEK Energy mechanical engineers:

  • Supported miners by supplying the needed mining equipment — 695 units, 14 new coal shearers, as well as 931,000 spare parts and components. All of this is another pillar supporting Ukraine, ensuring reliable energy generation throughout the autumn-winter season.

The company did all this despite nearly fifty attacks on its Thermal Power Plants, 25 complete power plant shutdowns, each followed by power engineers restarting the plant in question, and the loss of 1.4 GW capacity during the last heating season.
