As part of the Fight COVID-19 in Ukraine project, DTEK, together with Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, donated another six ventilators to hospitals in Pavlograd and Pershotravensk. This is the second batch of ventilators that has been delivered by Foundation and DTEK to help Western Donbas.
The ventilators are user-friendly and virtually eliminate human errors. This intensive care equipment will help the doctors of Pavlograd intensive care hospital and Pershotravenska city hospitals treat seriously ill coronavirus patients from Western Donbas and the neighboring Mezhova district. Later on, when the pandemic ends, these devices will be indispensable in ICU.
“At the beginning of the epidemic, we delivered 9,200 express tests for diagnosing coronavirus and five ventilators to Western Donbas hospitals. The pandemic runs rampant and sets new abysmal records on a daily basis. Aid to hospitals is very important and much needed. Being a socially responsible business, DTEK has supported the regions where our employees reside for a number of years. It is important for us to protect people, save their health and jobs. The stability of operation of our businesses means the stability of salaries, taxes paid to local and regional budgets, social projects implemented in the regions, and ultimately the support to the national economy. This is why we continue to join our efforts and support the health care system to save lives,” noted Serhiy Voronin, general director of DTEK Pavlogradugol.
Today, local hospitals are literally overrun by patients. This is why the availability of modern ventilators helps hospitals fight for the life of Ukrainians.
“Ventilators that have been delivered to hospitals are high-end devices with multiple modes of lung ventilation that can be adjusted for individual needs of patients. We desperately need them. About 400 pneumonia patients and 200 coronavirus patients have already received treatment at Pavlograd intensive care hospital. Today, 75 patients with acute pneumonia receive treatment in this hospital, five patients are connected to ventilators, and 11 patients were diagnosed with COVID. We are extremely grateful to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and DTEK,” says Olena Hulidina, deputy director for outpatient care of Pavlograd intensive care hospital.
“We express our deep gratitude to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and DTEK for their never-ending care about the residents of our city and support they provide to Pershotravensk doctors. These state-of-art ventilators are now worth their weight in gold. We are looking forward to further cooperation,” commented Pershotravensk city mayor Oksana Vinnytska.
As early as February, Rinat Akhmetov pooled the resources of his business, DTEK in particular, and allocated UAH 300 million to help the country fight COVID-19. This is the largest contribution made by a single charitable organization to the state health care system of Ukraine. The purchase of over 200 state-of-art ventilators for state hospitals was the key element of this aid. Today, 150 ventilators supplied by Foundation save lives of severely ill coronavirus patients in 12 regions of Ukraine.
