Bright and environmentally friendly: LED lights at Prydniprovska TPP helped to reduce carbon emissions

Less emissions and more light. DTEK Prydniprovska TPP upgraded the lighting of the open switchgear. More than 150 new LED lights were installed there. Due to their cost-effectiveness, they have already reduced carbon emissions by 308 tons and also improved safety at night. Now power engineers see as clear as during the day.

YASNO Energy Efficiency financed and installed 156 LED lamps on the open switchgear of Prydniprovska TPP on the basis of an energy service agreement (ESCO). These lanterns are shaped like beehives and use 90 % less energy than the old lamps that were there before. Also, the switchboards have been completely replaced, more than 6 thousand meters of power cable were laid, and a metering system for electricity used by lighting was installed. New Ukrainian-made lamps will be able to work for 10 years without replacement and without deterioration in the quality of the luminous flux.

“The new lanterns are a contribution to the plant upgrade and most importantly, an investment in occupational safety. Because life and health of our employees is the most important value. These lamps provide a comfortable level of illumination – at least 10 lux which is very important during night work on electrical installations. They are durable and can last about a hundred thousand hours without replacement,” Anatolii Borychevskyi, Director of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP, said.

Electricians of Prydniprovska TPP have already appreciated the new equipment. They say there is never too much light.

“Work is much better and safer now. All items of equipment are visible in detail; it is not always necessary to turn on flashlights. Workplaces and routes are well lit,” Ruslan Dubyna, an electrician, said.

Significant energy savings are also noticeable: since the introduction of new lamps into operation, the actual savings amounted to more than 350 thousand kWh. In equivalent, this is equal to a reduction in carbon emissions by 308 tons.

“This project is our contribution to the upgrade of Prydniprovska TPP. After all, it is planned that in 2020, the use of new lamps will help save at least 1,000,000 kWh or reduce carbon emissions by almost 900 tons,” Serhii Chulkov, Director of YASNO Energy Efficiency, emphasized.

The supplier of electricity and energy efficient solutions YASNO has implemented more than 30 similar lighting projects at 4 power plants and 11 other industrial enterprises.
