DTEK Energy’s TPPs boost electricity supply to compensate for power grid shortages

In September, DTEK Energy’s thermal power plants increased their electricity supply by 16 percent above the Ministry of Energy’s projected balance sheet to compensate for power grid shortages.

These were due to the limited operation of state-owned generation, shutdown of four TPPs, capture of the Zaporozhzhia NPP by Russian troops, and unavailability of 1GW of renewable power sources. They have been largely compensated for by the overtime operation of DTEK Energy’s TPPs.

DTEK has prepared its TPPs beforehand for operation during peak loads in the autumn-winter period.
Repairs at 19 power units have been completed; more than UAH1.3 billion has been invested. Scheduled maintenance is still underway at four units, with three more to undergo maintenance by the end of the year. On the whole, DTEK intends to complete 26 repairs this year.

DTEK Energy’s mines maintained coal production at the previous year’s level. To achieve this, 19 new longwalls have been commissioned this year. In early September, despite the hostilities, the company managed to accumulate more than 1.6 million tons of coal at its TPPs to see the winter through.

Providing its own TPPs with fuel is an absolute priority; however, the company has also found an opportunity to support state-owned generation with coal. 80 thousand tons of fuel have been shipped for the state-owned TPPs’ needs by now.
