300 young trees were planted on spoil tips of Dobropilska and Almazna Mines. On October 21 and 22, employees of Dobropilske Mine Group planted trees on the spoil tips of Dobropilska and Almazna Mines. This way, the miners green the spoil tips to reduce their adverse impact and improve the environment of the region.
Hryhorii Basov, a supervisor of the technology complex of the Dobropilska Mine surface, and his colleagues are regular visitors to the spoil tip. The miners are proud to tell how acacia, maple, and ash trees planted by them over the past years on the slopes of the artificial hill took root, “This is our small contribution to the improvement of Dobropillya’s environment. The plants strengthen the spoil tip surface, and it produces less dust.”
“We do everything we can for ourselves, our children, and the entire city,” Olena Pavlova, lead environmental engineer of Dobropilske Mine Group, sides with her colleague.
“DTEK Energy is a responsible and reliable company. Both DTEK and our employees make their contribution to improving the environment in the region,” notes Olena Kosheleva, deputy chief engineer of Dobropilske Mine Group who initiated the tree planting campaign. “Over ten years of DTEK’s operations in Dobropillya, the company has built two new spoil tips using an innovative technology of a “green” spoil tip to store the waste coal from Dobropil’s’ka CEP and Oktyabrskaya CEP. Each layer of waste coal is covered with a coat of clay, similarly to puff pastry. This technology prevents ignition and contact between waste coal and the environment. Water from the spoil pit is drained into a pond and is reused in a manufacturing process. At the same time, the company does not forget about the old spoil tips that were built back in the Soviet era and that we have been greening for several years in a row. We would like to turn them into hand-made green hills.”
DTEK has invested over UAH 125 million in the social development of Velyke Dobropillya in the past 10 years. The company helped raise another UAH 133.85 million to finance the development projects for Velyke Dobropillya.
