At DTEK Prydniprovska TPP, the project on retrofitting of ceiling electric lighting of the machine hall has been started. Thanks to installation of 130 LED fixtures, it is planned to save 85% of electric power for lighting of turbines of the units No. 7, 8, 9, 10. The expected environmental effect is the reduction of CO2 emissions by 380 tons annually. The retrofitting is being funded and carried out by DTEK ESCO on the turnkey basis.

The first 80 energy-efficient lights have already been installed above the units No. 8–10. The project also provides for replacement of 2.6 km of cabling and switchboards. For even better saving, the specialists install twilight relays for automatic lighting operation depending on the illumination from windows.

Such a comprehensive approach will allow the TPP to save about 400,000 kWh, or 785,000 hryvnias, annually.

“Saving and environmental friendliness are good and beneficial things. But our major goal is improvement of industrial safety and labor conditions for the plant’s personnel. Transition to LED lights will provide optimally comfortable illuminance levels for the employees – 200 lux which complies with the requirements for an industrial facility,” said Serhii Dehtiarenko, Director of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP.

“We have long been planning to improve our electric lighting system. Such large improvements require financial resources, experience, expertise and a guaranteed result. That’s why we involved DTEK ESCO that has already implemented similar projects providing 70 to 90% saving of electric power for lighting,” said Yurii Merintsov, Head of Electric Shop of DTEK Prydniprovska TPP.

“We are planning to finish this project as soon as possible, within three weeks. All equipment and installation works are being funded by the energy service company (ESCO) guaranteeing 85% of energy saving. The investments will be returned by the plant exclusively from a share of economy attained and confirmed. Energy service is a sort of risks insurance for project success and economy achievement. It is possible to improve lighting in offices, shopping malls, street lighting in cities and towns in a similar fashion,” noted Yevhen Bushma, Director of DTEK ESCO.

The company has already implemented a number of projects on retrofitting of electric lighting at coal processing mills securing 70 to 90% of electric power economy. Projects of installation of 2,200 LED lights at Metinvest Group’s Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and 162 LED lights at DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP are in progress.
