Review of DTEK Energy generation works as of 07 February 2021
  • During the previous 24 hours of 06 February 2021 thermal generation released electricity into the energy system 2 million kWh more than the planned supply (plan — 90 kWh, fact — 92 kWh). And this is even without taking into account the commands of NEC Ukrenergo for an unscheduled mobilization.
  • As of 8:30 a.m. on 7 February 2021, the declared capacity  of operating and backup power generating units was at 5,825 MW. There are 26 DTEK TPP’s power generating units operating within the energy system out of the 33 available ones. In the near future it is planned to include 2 more power generating units into the energy system.
  • According to the production schedule, 7 power generating units (6 at Burshtyn TPP and 1 at Luhansk TPP) are not yet in demand by the energy system and are presently in reserve. The situation may change, and in the event of shortage in the energy system, power engineers are ready for the commands of NEC Ukrenergo to deploy the backup power units.
  • In addition to the planned schedule per day on the balancing market, DTEK’s heat generation received commands from NEC Ukrenergo during the previous day to provide for the load of 6,865 MWh. With a cumulative total of 6 days, DTEK Energy’s thermal generation received load commands worth more than 50,604 MWh, thus covering all failures in Ukraine’s energy system
  • .There are currently only 3 power generating units undergoing renovation — 1 power unit each at each Ladyzhyn TPP, Burshtyn TPP and Kurakhove TPP). This is an overhaul subject the application, which has been approved by NEC Ukrenergo in advance. Mostly these are very short-term overhauls. The situations occur when power engineers would not put a power generating unit to current overhaul as planned, because the energy system simply requires additional capacity. This occurred the day before, when energy generating unit No. 3 of Zaporizhzhya TPP remained in operation.
  • Yesterday there was 1 emergency shut-down of power generating unit No. 2 of Ladyzhyn TPP due to formation of a fistula on the boiler unit super-heater. As of 12.00 am at 6 February 2021, there are no technological breaches at the power generating units in operation.
  • In this case, the term “power generating unit emergency shut-down” does not mean the loss of power by the unit and the energy system collapse. This is usually a short-term overhaul to eliminate shortcomings in the operation, such as fistulas on the heating surfaces of the boiler, etc., which also occur due to impossibility of carrying out fully-fledged overhauls.
  • Realizing the importance and responsibility during autumn and winter season, power engineers often compensate for the power of a “faded” power generating unit by recovering another from the back-up. In order to compensate for the power, generating unit No. 2 of Ladyzhyn TPP (220 MW maximum capacity) that was overhauled , power generating unit No. 1 of Zaporizhzhya TPP (307 MW) was recovered the previous night.
  • The number of power generating units under overhauls is variable due to power engineers, who quickly eliminate shortcomings in the equipment operation with all of their professionalism. It is precisely thermal generation that meets the energy system’s need for peak loads (in the morning and in the evening, when there is growing consumption).
  • During December through January, DTEK’s TPPs operated 20% higher than the forecast balance of the Ministry of Energy, because the power generating units of the NPPs did not undergo the overhauls on time and went into the emergency overhauls in the heat of the autumn and winter season.
