The youth of the Dobropil’s’ka CEP launched their own environmental marathon on the eve of the United Nations Day. Pursuing one of the UN sustainable development goals of sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, coal enrichment specialists planted trees and fruit seeds.

They decided to divide their tree planting efforts into several events. That approach required more time: the marathon lasted for four weeks, but was the most efficient. As a result, the activists planted over 700 saplings, 500 fruit seeds, and about 300 nuts.

The coal enrichment specialists were very enthusiastic about that campaign, “First, we were very skeptical and did not believe that anything could grow on that soil. But now, we have been participating in this campaign for several years and do not plan to stop. While we have an opportunity, we will continue planting trees both on spoil tips and on the plant’s territory”.

“It is quite possible that our work is not visible on the scale of the planet. However, we do everything we can in our region to make sure that we and our children can breathe freely,” commented Olena Volehova, the leader of the DTEK Energy Youth Movement from Dobropil’s’ka CEP, in support of her colleagues.

DTEK Energy is a responsible and reliable company that supports all initiatives launched by the company’s personnel to reduce the adverse impact on the environment. During the years of its operations in Dobropillya region, DTEK has invested over UAH 125 million in the social development of the region.

“Campaigns to improve the environment in the region are undertaken at our factory on an annual basis,” says Asya Zolyna, chief environmental engineer of Dobropil’s’ka CEP. Thanks to DTEK, our plant now has a new spoil tip where a new technology is used: every new layer of the rock is covered with a layer of clay. We are confident that coal enrichment waste will not come into contact with the environment. Therefore, our task is to do everything possible to plant trees on this spoil tip and make it part of the natural landscape of the region.”
