Power engineers and repairmen fixed power unit 5 of DTEK Kurakhivska TPP. The power unit has already been operating in the energy system and supplies much-needed load following megawatts to Ukrainians.
“The peak load in the energy system in Ukraine is recorded at 8:00 am and 8 pm. Load following capacities including Kurakhivska TPP are used to control and pass through the peak loads. Our power units are certified to operate in a special mode of fast load acceptance and shedding. This helps avoid load jumps when consumption changes rapidly during peak hours. This is why restored megawatts of our power company play a very important role for the entire energy system,” explains Maxym Chaban, chief engineer of DTEK Kurakhivska TPP.
Major repairs lasted for over 90 days. During that period of time, power engineers replaced an air heater, repaired a pulverized coal system and auxiliary equipment. They also cleaned boilers, repaired a generator, electric equipment, etc. Special attention was paid to the repair of ball-mill pulverizers responsible for pulverizing coal.
“We restored at least 60 MW of the capacities during the major repairs. That became possible thanks to the professionalism of repair personnel engaged by DTEK Kurakhivska TOO and Interenergoservice. The power unit has already been tested following the repair completion and resumed its operations in the energy system. This is an important contribution to the support of the energy system during an autumn and winter season. This way, DTEK makes an important contribution to the energy independence of our country,” emphasizes Stanislav Valantir, director of DTEK Kurakhivska TPP.
Once the major repairs to power unit 5 are completed, Kurakhivska TPP will have an opportunity to operate reliably and economically during an autumn and winter season.
