DTEK and Rinat Akhmetov Foundation deliver another four ventilators to Donetsk region doctors

As part of the Fight COVID-19 in Ukraine project, DTEK, together with Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, donated four high-end ventilators to local hospitals in Kurakhove and Dobropillya.

Modern equipment will help doctors save lives of coronavirus patients. When the epidemic ends, it will become an indispensable assistant in the ICU.

“The fight against coronavirus continues. We see that the pandemic runs rampant, and we continue joining the efforts of the state, businesses, and community to save human lives. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian health care system was not entirely ready to face new challenges and experienced shortage of equipment required to save lives of severely ill coronavirus patients. We support the regions where our companies operate, where families of our miners and power engineers live. The company has always treated support to the health care system as one of its top priorities. At the beginning of the epidemic, we delivered 3.5 thousand express tests for diagnosing coronavirus to hospitals in Kurakhove and Dobropillya. The importance of this support has been growing because now it helps save lives both in the midst of the pandemic and when fighting post-ICU complications,” explained DTEK Energy’s Regional Development Director Tetyana Overina.

The equipment donated by Foundation and DTEK has been delivered to both large hospitals in regional centers and small local hospitals, which makes modern European-level medicine accessible to everyone. Some hospitals either did not have ventilators at all or used ventilators purchased dozens of years ago, and doctors were not able to provide quality medical care to COVID-19 patients.

The chief of medicine of Dobropillya intensive care hospital Vadym Bobkov commented on the value of support provided to doctors, “Unfortunately, the pandemic does not recede; on the contrary, it is spiraling in Ukraine in general and in Donetsk region in particular. We can say that we are facing the second wave of coronavirus. Starting from September 9, our hospital has been admitting coronavirus patients, and this gift came in very handy. We would be unable to provide proper medical care without a device of this kind.”

These ventilators are top-of-the-line. Most importantly, they are easy to use and virtually eliminate human errors. Thanks to these features, the ventilators can be used immediately after the installation at any Ukrainian hospital which is extremely important in the midst of the pandemic when lives have to be saved here and now. Using its artificial intelligence, the device analyzes the patient’s condition and selects the most appropriate oxygen supply mode. Every time DTEK representatives cooperated with regional state administrations to identify the need for equipment and the list of hospitals.

“I would like to thank doctors for saving human lives. I also would like to express my gratitude to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for their continued support and precious gifts made to our doctors. I hope for further cooperation that saves human lives,” said Roman Padun, Kurakhove mayor.

As early as February, Rinat Akhmetov pooled the resources of his business, DTEK in particular, and allocated UAH 300 million to help the country fight COVID-19. This is the largest contribution made by a single charitable organization to the state health care system of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, regional hospitals in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Dnipro, Lugansk, Donetsk regions, and Energodar have already received 65 ventilators donated by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and DTEK.
