DTEK has completely resume the operation of Zaporizhzhya TPP in the energy system after power outage due to accident at Luch sub-station

Today, at 03.47 am, Zaporizhzhya TPP resumed its work in the energy system of Ukraine after the power outage due to a short circuit at Luch sub-station of Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo.

After eliminating causes of the accident at the sub-station, power engineers of Zaporizhzhya TPP managed to promptly eliminate the consequences of the TPP emergency shut-down and to connect power units No. 4 and No. 1 back to the network. Power engineers are preparing to launch another power unit No. 3 shortly.

May we remind that because of the short circuit at Luch sub-station of Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo, protection systems worked on blocks of the Zaporizhzhya TPP, which prevented a larger-scale accident. As the situation unfolded, three power units with a total capacity of 750 MW were involved. The emergency shut-down of DTEK Zaporizhzhya TPP led to a short-term blackout in Energodar.

In order to balance the operation of Ukraine’s energy system and to compensate for the capacity of Zaporizhzhya TPP’s power units, DTEK promptly connected a Kurakhivska TPP power unit to the grid.
