DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP Improves Industrial Safety with LED Lighting
Thermal power generation14 November 2018
The turbine hall at DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP is now fitted with energy-efficient lighting system to improve production safety. The new 162 heat-resistant LED fixtures save 75% of electric power compared to the former lighting system. Over a year, the TPP will reduce its electric power consumption by 1 million kWh, meaning 2.5 million hryvnias of costs reduction, and reduce the CO2 emissions by 900 tons.

“Quality lighting means comfort for our personnel, and industrial safety. We have put our own efforts into installation of about 500 LED lights outdoors and in the boiler and turbine hall interior, on the roof, in the fuel supply conveyor galleries and the car tipper. We are now convinced in the LED technology efficiency, so we have invited the energy service company (ESCO) to arrange lighting in the turbine room. The ESCO has invested its funds into the project, purchased the equipment and installed it on the turnkey basis with economy guarantees,” said Oleksandr Bobryk, Director of DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP.

“Each LED fixture has the power of 180 W and special protection against overheating in the turbine room’s high-temperature conditions. The new lights will last for over 100,000 hours (that’s more than 11 years) without replacement and light flux quality decay, which means that we are going to save on their maintenance as an addition,” said Dmytro Savoliuk, Energy Manager and Head of the Equipment Adjustment and Testing Department of DTEK Ladyzhynska TPP.

“We approach implementation of such projects comprehensively. We have completely redesigned the lighting system of the turbine hall of the main building of Ladyzhynska TPP. From now on, the system supports two operation modes: fully automatic with no human intervention (switching on and off by the twilight relay depending on the illuminance) and manual. Besides installation of the LED fixtures, we have replaced 5.8 km of cabling, laid 3.5 km of cable routes in metal galvanized pipes, and installed new light controls cabinets. While cooperating with the management of Ladyzhynska TPP, we have also reached the agreements on 4 more lighting upgrade projects,” said Yaroslav Kazmyruk, Project Manager of DTEK ESCO.

“Energy service allows the customer enterprise not to involve its own resources in retrofitting while obtaining new, efficient equipment and guaranteed saving. The customer refunds the investment over several years exclusively by means of the economy attained. Our expertise in lighting projects for TPPs, CEPs and metallurgic enterprises demonstrates 70–90% energy saving,” said Yevhen Bushma, Director of DTEK ESCO.
