In January-April 2025, DTEK Energy invested about UAH 1.6 billion to repair and restore its thermal power plants that were damaged by massive hostile shelling.
The repair campaign continues without pause as the scale of damage remains critical. A year ago, 90% of the company's generating facilities were destroyed or severely damaged by the attacks. On the eve of last winter, the power engineers managed to restore more than half of them, but new attacks in November and December caused serious damage again.
"What the power engineers continue to do 24/7 is not just technical work. It is a fight for reliable electricity supply to Ukrainian families, hospitals, schools and businesses. Therefore, our main task is to keep going. We are working every day to recover the energy system to ensure its reliable operation in the summer, during peak loads, and to enter the next heating season with confidence," said DTEK Energy CEO Oleksandr Fomenko.
"We are now facing such a large scope of repairs that we have never even imagined before. Some assemblies and units are completely destroyed - we manufacture some parts ourselves because it is impossible to order them. This is precision work where every millimetre counts. And every little thing is important for a huge machine to work - from power cables to a complex drive. There can be no mistakes here, because any failure can delay the launch of a power unit for days or even weeks. Therefore, the most important thing is well-coordinated teamwork. It is good that we have all worked together over the years. Each of us has unique knowledge and experience that allows us to achieve the desired result," said Andrii, a site foreman who has been working at one of DTEK's TPPs for more than 10 years.
Last year, the company invested UAH 3.6 billion in the restoration of TPPs and another UAH 7.5 billion in the development of domestic coal production. These investments contribute to the reliability of thermal generation and the Ukrainian energy system as a whole.
For reference:
Last year, russia committed 13 large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Ukrainian thermal power plants remained among the main targets of the enemy. In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, the enemy has attacked DTEK Energy's TPPs 205 times. As a result of the attacks, 56 plant employees were injured and 4 were killed.
