Two new longwalls were put into operation at Geroiv Kosmosu Mine Group with total reserves of more than half a million tonnes of coal. One of them became the first longwall on the new seam C5, where more than 9 million tonnes of coal are deposited. By developing and producing new fuel reserves for the Ukrainian energy sector, DTEK ENERGY miners are contributing to the country’s energy independence.
The longwalls were prepared and put into operation by the teams of coal mining sites Nos. 3 and 5. By applying the know-how they reduced the amount of cable in the faces. For this purpose, the launching equipment was placed on both the boundary and prefabricated entries, and not on one of them as before. The miners now operate the complex using digital equipment purchased from the Polish company ‘Elsta’. This is a joint technical solution of mine management engineers and Elsta specialists. The innovation has improved the safety of workers during coal mining and significantly reduced the cost of purchasing cable products.
‘The new longwall is a guarantee of stable work of the team, therefore we always prepare it responsibly. For the purposes of accident-free work, the cleaning equipment has been repaired and revised in joint efforts with face equipment repair specialists. The mechanical complex KD-90 with sections was received after overhaul. My colleagues and I understand that on the eve of the heating season, Ukrainian TPPs are expecting our coal, therefore we are fully committed to work as efficiently as possible,’ said Andrii Pustovoit, Foreman of Breakage Face Miners of Site No. 3.
On average, 3,700 tonnes of coal are mined daily from the new working faces.
‘For more than four years, the specialists of the mine group have been engaged in diligent and serious preparations to start mining coal from the new C5 seam. We plan to consistently commission another 24 longwalls there, which means 15 years of stable operation and more than 9 million tonnes of coal for the country’s energy sector. I am grateful to the mine group team for their responsibility and professionalism. I believe that we will be equally successful in preparing the new Morozivskyi direction for development,’ said Vasyl Snihur, Director of DTEK Geroiv Kosmosu Mine Group.
6 new longwalls have been put into operation and more than 2 million tonnes of coal have been mined at Geroiv Kosmosu Mine Group since the beginning of the year. By the end of the year, the miners plan to put 2 more longwalls into operation and produce more than 1 million tonnes of coal.
