A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the children’s outpatient clinic in Shchastia town on 19 May. The complete renovation of this facility became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the UNDP and DTEK within the scope of the project ‘Public Health Platform: Developing a Multi-Stakeholder Partnership for Public Safety and Social Cohesion of Shchastia Community’.
The Shchastia Children’s Outpatient Clinic has been catering to the needs of almost 2,500 children under the age of 17. The major renovation of its building started in November 2020. During this period, pediatricians’ offices, immunization office, entrance hall, and toilet facilities underwent complete refurbishment. The works covered the heating, water supply and sewerage, and electrical systems of the building.
Viktor Muntianu, the UN Recovery and Peacebuilding Program Manager, noted that the renovation of the children’s outpatient clinic is a result of the efforts taken by the local action group for public safety and social cohesion that brought together the representatives of the local community, authorities, law-enforcement agencies, and local activists who determined priorities for the development of the local community and urgent needs of the town.
"We congratulate Shchastia community who joined their efforts to renovate the children’s’ outpatient clinic. For us, this is yet another example of the success archived by local action groups for public safety and social cohesion that has to be replicated to other towns in Eastern Ukraine and then, in due course, to the entire territory of Ukraine. The creation of open public platforms to identify challenges and prospects of development of local communities as a synergy tool for overcoming the consequences of the military conflict remains one of the top priorities for our Program, and I am pleased to see the real positive results achieved by a local action group",added Viktor Muntianu.
