DTEK Prydniprovska TPP is introducing a new technology - dry ash extraction. It will significantly reduce the impact on the environment and help to rationally use waste. Now it will be possible to use ash to produce construction mixtures as well as to build roads. To this end, a dry ash extraction system has been installed at the Prydniprovska TPP. Representatives of the Dnipro City Council's Environment Protection Department have seen the new equipment.
“DTEK takes steps to reduce its impact on the environment and implements environmental initiatives. This year we installed a new dry ash extraction system on Unit 10. It allows us to remove at least 10 tons of ash per hour from the electrostatic precipitator depending on the load. The system is up and running, and we are ready to ship ash to the consumers that we are now closing deals with. Most importantly, it will significantly reduce the environmental impact of TPPs and help save land and water resources. There is no need to pump ash onto the dump sites. It can be used in road construction. In Europe, for example, this has been practised for a long time”, said Anatoliy Borychevskyi, DTEK Prydniprovska TPP Director.
April is a landmark month for Prydniprovska TPP. After all, it was in April 2018 that the Memorandum of Cooperation, which includes 27 environmental upgrade measures for the TPP, was signed between DTEK and the Dnipro City Council. In 3 years, DTEK has built a modern electrostatic precipitator for Unit No.10, installed a flue gas monitoring system, erected 2 air quality monitoring stations, equipped waste water channels with a water metering system, retrofitted the industrial sewerage network and replaced almost 2.5 kilometres of ash and slag pipelines. DTEK has invested over UAH 500 million in the environmental upgrade of the TPP.
Deputy Director of the City Hall's Environmental Protection Department Yaroslav Krysko arrived at the TPP to check on the status of the environmental upgrade. He saw the new equipment, learned about the principles of its operation and talked to the plant employees.
"I would like to thank DTEK for the environmental upgrade measures implemented at the Prydniprovska TPP, as stipulated by the Memorandum. Their implementation has significantly reduced the company's impact on the environment: air, land and groundwater. The TPP is actively cooperating with the municipal authorities as part of the City's Environmental Safety Programme for 2021-2025. When the last similar programme was underway in 2016-2020, the company implemented UAH 16 million worth of measures. We hope that the active cooperation between the power plant and the city hall will go on as we have one and the same goal in mind - a healthy environment and comfort of our residents", said Yaroslav Krysko, Deputy Director of the Dnipro City Council's Environmental Policy Department.
Next, this year, Prydniprovska TPP is going to repair the electrostatic precipitators of its power units to ensure efficient operation of the gas treatment systems.
