Estonian Power Engineers Come to Ukraine to Learn from DTEK Energy’s Experience of Operating TPPs in Wartime

Today, Ukraine is sharing more than just military experience with Europe. Over the years of the full-scale war, Ukrainian power engineers have accumulated practice unique for Europe – how to operate, protect equipment and restore energy infrastructure under constant threat and attack.

It was for this experience that a delegation from Estonia – representatives of the relevant ministry and heads of the country’s energy companies – came to DTEK Energy’s thermal power plants.

The Estonian colleagues saw how power engineers and repair workers operate in wartime and how physical protection of critical equipment is arranged, and familiarised themselves with the technical solutions and approaches developed directly during the war.

And this is an important signal: European countries are increasingly seriously preparing their energy systems for risks that only a few years ago might have seemed purely theoretical. And Ukrainian experience is becoming one of their practical benchmarks.

That is why this meeting is not only about technology or knowledge sharing. It is about the experience that Ukraine has gained at far too high a price – and that today can help make Europe’s energy sector more resilient.
